I had it in mind that this would be a more processed sound based on demos and my experience with other EQD modulation pedals. So ultimately why I’m returning it is because I bought it intending to use it as a filter effect, but it turns out this is more like an interesting modulation pedal that’s a bit too “clear” sounding for my tastes. It’s about as wide as a standard EQD pedal with top mounted jacks is, and just a smidge shorter length-wise than my twin pedal layout boss pedals (re-20, rc-20). As a cocked wah filter or even a multi modulation effect, it was more subtle. The most pronounced effect the interstellar orbiter seemed to make was the vowel like talking sounds you hear in all the demos. But no, it’s not as processed sounding as the depths and, although there’s lots of controls, I couldn’t get a more prominent filter effect no matter how high I had the intensity and resonance knobs. That’s ultimately why I bought it: as a filter effect. My the depths pedal has a very filtery sound to it so I thought this would kind of be the same deal but with a different overall effect. It’s not at “processed” as I thought it was going to be. It’s just not a sound I like in addition to my clean tone. Maybe it’s just the way EQD modulation is voiced that doesn’t jive so well with me, but I’m sure other people love that sound. On the depths it was easy enough to dial out thanks to the voice control, but as far as I could tell, there wasn’t really a way to adjust this on the interstellar orbiter. This reminded me of my first impressions of my EQD the depths pedal as well. Even when changing the center frequency to the peak setting (frequency knob all the way clockwise) the sweep of the low end just always felt wider than every other frequency. I wasn’t that big of a fan of it on clean tones - It never really got bright enough for me. Making sure the pedal doesn’t clip every time I change the intensity, dialing in the right wet/dry mix every time after adjusting one parameter, keeping the resonance in check so that it doesn’t sound like a bird chirping in your ear… These were all really cool to mess with, definitely, but for me personally, it was a bit much.

There’s a lot of fine tuning to be done, I found, that had to go into getting a sound I was satisfied with. If you want one filter to be more prominent than the other, you have to adjust each filter’s “intensity” control, then dial down the mix knob to avoid clipping. The master “direct” knob at the top of the pedal controls the wet/dry mix for both filters. Thanks to some help from /u/two-headed-boy, I learned that each “mix” knob doesn’t function as a typical wet/dry mix, but as a level/gain control - This was super confusing at first because when I was trying to set it up for a very prominent mix of one filter with that filter’s mix above 12 o’clock, I would run out of headroom and get some super gross muddy “bottom of a phase sweep” distortion. It was very inspiring playing lead lines on this setting and that is totally what I’d use it for. I played with it for about an hour with all the controls set up to make it sound kind of like an autowah/phaser. Sounds fantastic with dirt - I tried it both ways and came to the conclusion that I preferred it before my drive pedals where the sweep wasn’t as pronounced. Filter A is a bit darker, more vowel like, and filter B is a bit brighter and sounds like the wind is whispering (if that makes any sense). While the filters make cool sounds together, I had a lot of fun messing with each filter on its own as well. Not quite as 3d though as you can imagine since it’s only technically one filter without a resonance control instead of two modulating at different intensities. Nothing I have around can quite replicate the sound, although I’d say my EQD the depths gets closest.

It can’t really be spot on recreations of either of them, but it can get close enough where you could fool an audience, plus it’s got it’s own thing going on…Ģ individually voiced filters together is super unique. It’s like if phaser and leslie sim had a weird kid, then that kid went and made babies with an autowah.

It does a lot - Think of this thing more like a crazy modulation pedal than a filter pedal. Just so this doesn’t end up getting too long I’ll do it in a list: OK so I’m just going to say it up here: I think I’m going to return this because it’s not exactly what I thought it was going to be, but I thought I’d do a review anyways since there isn’t too much out there on this pedal.
